  • 1tsp salt

Equipment Needed

  • cast_iron_skillet

Instructions

  1. 1

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.

  2. 2

Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Add ground beef, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.

  3. 3

Cook beef until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if needed.

  4. 4

Add cumin, chili powder, paprika, and salt. Stir well and cook for 2 minutes until spices are fragrant.

  5. 5

Add 1/4 cup water, stir to combine, and let simmer for 5 minutes until liquid is mostly absorbed.

  6. 6

Warm tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame until pliable and slightly charred.

  7. 7

Assemble tacos with seasoned beef, diced onion, tomatoes, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Add cheese and sour cream if desired.

Tips

  • For authentic street-style tacos, use two stacked corn tortillas per taco to prevent them from falling apart.
  • Char your tortillas over an open flame for the best flavor and texture. They should have a few black spots.
  • Make a quick salsa by mixing diced tomatoes, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and a pinch of salt.
